New Year’s Eve 10 K run in Iceland and 3 km fun-run!



12440701_1665980203641780_6861874627523769876_oEvery year the ÍR track and field club of Reykjavik celebrates the end of the year with its New Year´s Eve 10K run on December 31st. The annual 10 K run held in downtown Reykjavík attracts both elite runners as well as recreational runners of all ages. It has become a tradition for runners in Iceland to end the year with this fast course 10K run. Many participants dress up and run in costumes and a special prize is awarded to the most unique costume. This year there will also be a 3 km fun-run. Many runners from abroad participate in this 10K run and then enjoy the unique bonfires and spectacular fireworks in Iceland on New Year´s eve.

Date and time

December 31st 2016 at 12:00 noon.

Place

The start is at Sæbraut outside of Harpa - Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Center.

Registration

Registration will be through the internet at  www.hlaup.is  until midnight on the 30th of December. Runners are encouraged to register through the internet as the fee increases on race day. Registration will be open on race day in Harpa from 10 AM until 11:30 AM.

Runners who pre-register can pick up their registration package on the 30th of December at ÍR, Skógarsel 12, 112 Reykjavík from 16:30 PM - 19:00 PM. All other runners must pick up their registration package in Harpa prior to the run on December 31st  from 9:30 AM -11:00 AM.

The 3 km fun run has the same start and finish line as the 10 km race. After 1,5 km on the course there will be a U-turn back to the finish line.

No official timing in the 3 km fun race.

Refreshments

There will be one drinking station at km 5,5 offering our pure icelandic water. 
There will also be refreshments after the race.

Age caegories

There are 8 age division for men and women
15 years and younger
16-18 years old
19-39 years old
40-44 years old
45-49 years old
50-54 years old
55-59 years old
60 years old and older

 

Prize

All participants 15 years old and younger receive a medal. First 3 male and female runners receive a medal and as well as the first runner in each age category both male and female.  Special prize is awarded for the best costume. 

All children 15 years of age and younger receive a medal and older who paid for medal when registering. First 3 male and female runners receive a medal.  In addition the first Icelandic male and female runners. First runner in each age category both male and female.  

All participants are elegible for surprize give away prizes that will be handed out after the race.


Prize ceremony

The price ceremony will take place in Harpa right after the race.

Storage for clothing – restrooms

The restrooms are located in Harpa. You can leave your clothing at Harpa during the race but the organizers do not take any responsibility for them.

Other information

All participants must have their bip number fastened to their front and visible at all times. This is a street race and some traffic throughout the course so runners are asked to be cautious. There will be aids at all the big intersections throughout the course. Due to security participants are asked not to run with an iPod or any other music players. Also runners are not allowed to have a baby carriage or a baby jogger in the race.
